JAMES POUILLON’S DAUGHTER IS ENORMOUS
PROBABLY NOT OK TO MAKE FUN OF A WOMAN WHOSE FATHER WAS JUST MURDERED, BUT REALLY, SHE’S ASKING FOR IT
OWOSSO, Mich. - In what is most likely in very bad taste, thousands across the nation watching funeral services for James Pouillon, the lovable old man whose only crime was showing pictures of dead fetuses to school children relentlessly for three decades, were either snickering to themselves or openly mocking the deceased’s morbidly obese daughter.
Mary Jo Pouillon, 26, weighing in at an easy 500 pounds of unapologetic mush, has had a bad week. Her father got shot, for one thing, and as the second abortion-related killing in recent months, he was also perhaps the first ever to be killed on the Pro-Life side of the debate, putting his death at the crux of a possible streak of escalating violence.
At the heart of the nation’s worry is the long held standard that only those in the Pro-Life camp commit senseless killings- proving that, unlike James Poulon, Irony is alive and well and can eat it’s heart out, or if there is some left over should just call Mary Jo Pouillon to finish the job. Traditionally, those who murder abortion doctors are applauded as heroes in a battle for life, and the limp-wristed baby-killing liberals generally don’t retaliate beyond NPR call-ins and Op-Eds in the New York Times. Though with the death of Mr. Pouillon, America enters uncharted territory.
“Nobody knows what’s going to happen,” said the guy next to me while I watched CNN at a bar, “and even though Pro-Choice people are condemning the killing, who knows how those Pro-Lifers are going to act. They are usually a pretty pissed off bunch to begin with, I- holy shit what is that!? Is that a person! It looks like… Oh God is that the poor guy’s daughter? Wait wait wait, his wife gave birth to that and he still didn’t believe in abortion? Holy shit that man must have been committed.”
It was that exact sentiment that has been echoed across living rooms and water coolers throughout the afternoon on Wednesday, along with a healthy debate about whether or not it’s cool to joke about somebody whose father just died even if they are as huge and grotesque and planet-like as Mary Jo Pouillon. CNN is planning a highly anticipated text-message opinion poll on this subject later this week.
Ms Pouillon was not available for comment on the matter, though a spokesperson for the family said that she would be spending her evening mourning, praying and eating her feelings.
